NorCCS - Nordic partnership to accelerate the development and commercialization of CCS technologies

Project 2025 Active

Despite national progress, cross-Nordic collaboration in CCS, or Carbon Capture and Storage, remains limited. Despite national progress, cross-Nordic collaboration in CCS remains limited.

NorCCS is establishing a partnership among leading Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden to accelerate carbon capture and storage (CCS) for hard-to-abate sectors like Waste-to-Energy and Pulp and Paper, and to enable carbon-negative emissions through bioenergy with CCS (BECCS).

NorCCS aims to unite technology companies, emitters, and RTOs to speed up the development and commercialization of CCS by:

  • Reducing energy use and costs for carbon capture through thermal integration and industrial heat pumps, thereby cutting overall emissions.
  • Developing robust, cost-effective monitoring of air emissions from CCS plants for public acceptance and regulatory compliance.
  • Improving solvent management to enhance capture performance and reduce operational issues.
