The Critical Raw Material Centre (CRMC) aims to establish a Nordic hub for recycling and reusing critical and strategic raw materials, supporting Europe’s transition to sustainable resource access. Key goals include extracting at least 50% of such materials from secondary streams, accelerating business development with recycled content, and raising awareness of resource limitations. The centre will build on the unique Eyde Material Database, which tracks 10 million tons of industrial side streams annually from 54 companies.
The pre-project will define the centre’s scope—considering materials like landfill, sea, scrap, electronic, and battery waste—and identify Nordic partners and relevant material streams. It will also align with industry needs, test and research facilities, and establish a cooperative partnership model. Market engagement and business acceleration for recycled materials are priorities, as is educating the public about resource scarcity. Finally, the project will explore financing options and a sustainable business model for the CRMC.
