Close up of wool

New Nordic seabased textile industry

Project 2025 Active

The goal is to create a commercially viable material that can be used in high-quality garments, starting with a wool blend for Devold’s product line.

SeaSilk Textiles will optimize material formulation protocols, RISE will run fiber spinning and performance tests, Icelandic Textile Center will perform functional testing of the product and identify relevant actors in the value chain in Iceland, such as textile producers and seaweed farmers. Devold will provide technical criteria for the fiber and industrial use cases. The project lays the foundation for a pilot-scale textile production based entirely on Nordic raw materials.

Partners

SeaSilk Textiles AS (NO, project leader), Devold (NO), RISE (SE), Icelandic Textile Center (IS)
