Data Sharing as key driver for circular business models

Our new partner will map out Nordic pilot projects where data sharing in circular value chains and across industries is a key driver in creating new circular business models. The partner will also facilitate the expansion of existing Nordic pilots to maximize their value and needed capabilities for data sharing.

“There are already circular data sharing pilots ongoing at country levels in the Nordics. We want to expand some of these initiatives to maximize the impact, share learnings across the Nordics, fill capability gaps and showcase the best use cases for Nordic companies”, explains Hanna Törmänen, Senior Innovation Advisor at Nordic Innovation.

Showcase best practice on data sharing for Nordic companies

In addition, the partner will showcase frontrunner pilots and demonstrate the value of data sharing for Nordic companies as well as deliver policy recommendations.

“By demonstrating how data sharing can increase circularity and create financial value, the aim is that more businesses will be motivated to follow and for instance set up new pilot projects”, Hanna Törmänen continues.

“Data and data sharing between companies and value chains is most often at the core of circular business models. With this new project we want to strengthen value chain collaboration to share data, and support Nordic companies in how to share data for increased circularity”, adds Peter Munch-Madsen, Senior Innovation Advisor at Nordic Innovation.

Companies need to prepare for new regulations

The vision for the Nordic region is to become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. A key component of the vision is the Nordics as a circular and bio-based region. Nordic businesses and industries play a crucial role in realizing vision 2030 by transitioning to circular business models. At the same time companies will need to adapt to new regulations, such as EU´s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products, where data plays a key role.

“Nordic companies need to prepare for these upcoming regulatory demands for increased circularity and we also want to support them by showcasing how sharing data will bring financial value. Data-based circular business model innovation also increases companies’ competitiveness in the market. Related to this, we also need new policy measures to advance the data sharing for circularity in the Nordic region”, says Hege Louise Guttormsen, Higher Executive Officer at Nordic Innovation.
