The second call for project outlines will be announced in Autumn 2025. The information in this article is therefore limited to the first step of the call process.

No co-financing required for phase 1

The webinar gave interested applicants the opportunity to ask questions and clarify uncertainties. One of the most asked questions was related to the topic of co-financing. Nordic Innovation usually requires 50% co-financing on innovation projects, however, in this call for project outlines there is no requirement for co-financing. Nordic Innovation will give up to 200.000 NOK without asking for co-financing on top.

If you are still left with some questions, we have collected some questions and answers from the webinar below. We will also update the FAQ session on the call-site continuously.

Questions and answers:

How many granted projects will you allow for?

Around 20 projects will be granted funding

Any red tape or considerations around the topic of Defence/Dual-use /Security?

We encourage projects touching upon defense, dual use and security. There are no immediate considerations that we want to highlight regarding this, but if you have a very specific question, you can reach out to us to have this verified. The project should be focused on innovation and not early-stage R&D.

Any hard rules of the budget division between partners?

No

How detailed should the project idea be for the first call? Is the focus more on the consortium creation and a general idea for collaboration or should the project be very clear and detailed at the first phase?

We encourage you to be as specific as possible to improve the chances of getting funded, as this is a short 3-month preparatory project in this first stage. At the same time, we also understand that this is an exploratory phase of putting together an innovation project and a full project consortium of min. three partners from three different countries for stage 2.

By this "The project should be focused on innovation and not early-stage R&D" as "innovation" do you mean that the project should not be focusing on developing product/solutions, but on other aspects of innovation work, understood broadly?

Broadly, we focus more on later TRL-stages - from TRL 5 and up. This means no basic research, but the TRL scale is naturally a bit of grey zone when it comes to applied R&D / TRL 5-6.

Who are the other participants? Potential partners?

Collaboration is key in creating innovation projects, and an important aspect of the webinar was to enable interested applicants to meet with each other to share project ideas and establish a foundation for collaboration.

The participants had the opportunity to join different breakout rooms based on their interests such as transport, health tech, circular economy, defense, deep tech, AI, construction and energy.

To build on the connections established in the breakout rooms, we will share a list with names, organization and contact information on those who have consented to this prior to the webinar.

We encourage everyone to continue the discussions.
