Summer is around the corner, and while we are all looking forward to celebrating the long Nordic Summer nights, we are busy planning our participation at the Nordic Democracy Festivals.
This year you will be able to meet Nordic Innovation at Folkemødet, Almedalsveckan, Suomi Areena and Arendalsuka.
Folkemødet, 12-14 June
First stop on the Tour is Folkemødet in Denmark. Nordic Innovation organizes two events in Nordens Telt within transport and ocean economy.
Travelling across the Nordics in a sustainable way is often complicated. The digital services available are fragmented and country specific. On Thursday, 12 June, 14.00-14.45, the session 'Bæredygtig transport på tværs af Norden' will discuss the political, technical, and commercial barriers that stand in the way of a seamless green travel experience, and we ask: what will it take to make the vision of a single, unified Nordic ticket a reality? The discussion is based on Nordic Innovation’s project 'NEMU – Nordic Ecosystem Mobility Unlimited' and our partner Søren Sørensen from ITS Denmark will take part in the panel.
Security, defense and crisis preparedness are hot topics at the Nordic Democracy Festivals this Summer. Friday, 13 June, 13.00-13.45 the session 'Havvind og Innovation i usikre tider' will discuss how innovation and co-location principles can be used to develop new solutions integrating offshore wind with security systems. The discussion will be based on a keynote from Nordic Innovation’s OFFWOFF project which has explored the opportunity of co-locating offshore wind with fish farming. The question is: can we use the same principles and co-locate offshore wind with security systems?
Almedalsveckan, 23-27 June
There are always a lot of activities going on at Almedalsveckan. Besides one event in Nordens Telt, we will also participate as co-organizers at other arenas. Managing Director, Sindre Bornstein will also be present and take part at panel discussions throughout the week. You are welcome to reach out to him if you are at Almedalsveckan.
The EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act states that critical raw materials are essential for the EU’s economy and strategic sectors. Circular economy is important, as 25 percent of strategic raw materials are expected to come from recycling in the future. In the session 'Återvinning av kritiske råvaror – räddningen för framtidens resurser' we ask: how will we get there, when we only recycle about 1% today?
The session takes place in Nordens Telt on Thursday 24 June, 17.00-17.45
Recycling of critical raw materials will also be on the agenda at Arendalsuka and Suomi Areena.
Nordic Innovation has supported the Nordic Network for Electric Aviation since 2019. On Tuesday 22 June, 15.00-15.45, the session 'Elflyget – regional genombrott eller grön bubble?' turns the spotlight on electric aviation and its impact and opportunities for regional development. The session is organized in collaboration with our project partner, Heart Aerospace.
The session takes place at 2030-arenaen.
Scaleups are essential drivers of the Nordic economy and creates value across the entire region. From 2021-2024, Nordic Innovation and Dagens Industri celebrated the Nordic region’s high growth scaleups through the Nordic Scaleup Summit and Scaleup Awards. On Wednesday 23 June, 09.55-10.40 the session 'Scaleups som motor för konkurrenskraften – hur när vi ditt?' will discuss how more Nordic companies can reach their full growth potential and how we can create an investment climate turning the Nordics into a growth paradise.
The session takes place at Dagens Industris scen.
Suomi Areena, 24-27 June
In 2024 we returned to Suomi Areena after a few years of absence. It was a great success, and we are happy to be back again this year.
On Tuesday 24 June, 12.00-12.45 The Nordic Council of Ministers organize in collaboration with Ecolabelling Finland the session 'Haloo ilmastotavoitteet jo kiertotalous – mikä kestää?' The panel will discuss what is needed to accelerate the fight against climate change and support the transition to a circular economy. Could digitalization be the key to a greener and more competitive Nordic region? Circular Economy has been a key innovation area for Nordic Innovation since 2018, and we will contribute to this session with insights from our work.
In collaboration with GTK, Geological Survey of Finland and the Nordic Council of Ministers we also put recycling of critical raw materials on the agenda at Suomi Areena.
Arendalsuka, 11-15 August
Last stop on the Democracy Tour is Arendalsuka. Nordic Innovation organizes four events in Nordens Telt.
We open a week of a full program on Monday 11 August, 16.30-17.30. In the session 'Å balansere bruk og beskyttelse for en bærekraftig havøkonomi' we discuss how the Nordics should utilize its ocean resources in the future. With today’s geopolitical and economic changes, the ocean is more important to the Nordic countries than ever before.
How can we ensure that transport and mobility in the Nordic region function even when it really matters? On Wednesday 13 August, 14.00-15.00 the session 'Innovative nordiske transportsystemer – beredskap og konkurrensekraft i en ny tid' discusses how new technologies are opening opportunities for smarter and more efficient emergency preparedness and coordination, and how we can better leverage the potential of Nordic collaboration. The event is organized in collaboration with ITS Norway.
In Summer 2025 Nordic Innovation launches a report mapping out the Nordic-Baltic Quantum Ecosystem. The report shows that the Nordic region is well-positioned to take a leading role with individual countries offering complementary strengths. In the session 'Norges plass i kvante-Norden' we discuss Norway’s position and opportunities in the quantum ecosystem and ask: what role should Norway play in a regional quantum collaboration? The event is organized in collaboration with Oslo Science City.
Other events: Gjenvinning av kritiske råmaterialer – et nytt industrieventyr i Norden
When: 12 August, 12.00-12.45
We look forward to meeting you on our Democracy Tour!
