Some of the biggest city developments are happening in the smart city arena. Knowledge and solution sharing are key to accelerate and scale-up the benefits of smart cities – around the Nordics and worldwide.

Innovation Norway, CLEAN, Cleantech Scandinavia and Business Finland will host a Nordic pavilion at this year's Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona 13-15 November.

Supporting a Nordic program and a Nordic delegation

The pavilion will support a Nordic program and a delegation of hundreds of Nordic actors at the World Congress. The delegation consists of city decision-makers, designers, companies offering smart city solutions, knowledge organisations and clusters.

This year one significant focus will be international networking. Delegations and companies from other countries are encouraged to contact one of the country organisers in order to discuss potential networking options.

Building on success from last year

The four organising partners were were originally brought together by Nordic Innovation to create the first Nordic Pavilion of all time in the Smart City Expo World Congress last year. Nordic Innovation co-funds the pavilion this year as well.

Last year's pavilion was a success in terms of business buzz, new partnerships and happiness of the participants and visitors. The results below indicate that Nordic cooperation is useful and that we are stronger together:

  • 400+ Nordic visitors and participants.
  • 32 exhibitors.
  • 20+ presentations including company pitches and city presentations.
  • 50+ speed meetings between Nordic or international decision makers from cities and Nordic SMEs with new, innovative technologies.
  • 90% - 100% of the Nordic participants were satisfied, stating that the pavilion and expo were either “good” or “very good”.

Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges

The Nordic pavilion is funded by Nordic Innovation through the Nordic Sustainable Cities project, aiming to promote and export Nordic solutions for sustainable, liveable and smart cities.

The project is one of six flagship projects under the Nordic prime ministers’ initiative Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges, which is coordinated by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
