Nordic Marine marketing - pilot stage

Fewer and fewer students are applying for jobs in the marine sector and the companies are not looking for differentiated know-how and education. The project will set up a Nordic Marine Marketing bootcamp where students from the Nordics would mutually solve a problem within the sector and video record it for marketing purposes. => More

 

Industry Academia Interaction in the marine sector

The project will address challenges involved in establishing industry – academia interaction in education programs and promoting attractive career opportunities, by applying communication approaches of social science to address industrial managers, and by working together with higher education institutes and communication experts. => More

 

Innovation in the fish counter

Only by giving the fishmongers the best condition to improve and compete can we secure their survival. There is a great potential in increasing the shopping experience in an innovative way and thereby improve sales of seafood. The Nordic fishmonger associations wish to join forces, create the world’s most inspiring fish counters by among others harmonize the terms and regulations in the Nordic region they have to comply to. => More

 

Developing a Certifiable Quality Standard for Nordic Caviar

Russian caviar has built a worldwide reputation. Nordic caviar is simply a commodity. Now an alliance of fish processors have made a unified "seal of approval" for producing caviar from other fish species than the sturgeon. In order to create a loyal customer base our region needs to make sure that we can present a consistent, recognizable, trustworthy, and safe product. We need to create a luxury experience to go along with our Nordic caviar. => More

 

The North Atlantic Marine Cluster

The North Atlantic accounts for 5.7 % of marine surface area. Its catch by unit surface area is 2.3 times higher than global average. The nations surrounding the North Atlantic have benefited economically from this rich resource. But could they gain more from strengthening their cooperation which has scarce in recent decades? This project aims to bring together leaders from marine clusters in all the countries around the North Atlantic, map the opportunities, bench mark, and initiate further cooperation. => More

 

Nordic Algae Network

The interest for and development in the field of using algae as aquatic biomass for energy production has in recent years increased significantly. However, the process is not yet cost-effective if the biomass is only used for energy production. By first extracting high value compounds, used by numerous industries, and then producing biofuel of the remains the process can be made cost-effective. This project aims to initiate and organize a platform for industries and research institutes in the Nordic countries for exchanging and developing knowledge and know-how. => More

 

Automated pinbone removal in cod and white fish

Automated pinbone removal has the potential to increase the sustainability, profits and market for cod and other whitefish. This is due to an increased use of raw material, a reduced number of operators and an increased final product value. This will enable the industry to stay competitive against cheap non-Nordic farmed whitefish (i.e. tilapia).This project will make a breakthrough by using complete high-resolution 3D positioning of the whole pinbone, and this position for precise bone removal. => More

 

Novel bioactive seaweed based ingredients and products

Marine seaweeds are a highly underutilized resource in Scandinavia with great potential. Seaweeds are known to contain unique compounds which can find many uses in consumer products. The goal of this project is to develop technologies to process novel highly bioactive ingredients from seaweed and develop innovative products containing them with active collaboration of target consumers. => More

 

Enriched convenience seafood products

Seafood dishes enriched with bioactive compounds from the ocean, such as seaweed, fish proteins and fish oil will be developed to meet market demand. This is an innovative seafood development project based on collaboration between a fish processing company, ingredient companies and food research institutes with emphasis on consumer oriented product development, consumer testing and marketing. => More

 

Local fish feed ingredients for competitive and sustainable production of high-quality aquaculture feed

The project aims to implement a new ideology into Nordic aquaculture by utilizing local ingredients for aquaculture feed. This model for minimizing the carbon footprint and increasing the ecological sustainability of fish farming will allow the industry to take a major “competitive-edge” step forward. The focus on ecological circulation of raw materials will change negative environmental impacts into profitable green growth. The Nordic countries known for their engagement in sustainable development could be in the forefront in developing aquaculture into a sustainable, low carbon footprint food production business. => More

 

Profitable Arctic charr farming in the Nordic countries

This project will further develop the aquaculture of Arctic charr in the Nordic countries and promote charr to the market as a high quality product produced in a sustainable way. Recent results on feed development and rearing methods will be tested and implemented. Furthermore, comprehensive information will be collected on the full production cycle, the quality of the fish and the ecological footprint of the production to use in marketing. => More

 

The Future's fish counter

An interesting consortium of leading companies in the Nordic grocery industry wishes to develop two concepts for tomorrow's fish counter together with Leroy Seafood Group. The goal for the new concepts is to contribute to increased consumption and sale of seafood. The concepts will be developed based on international food trends and good understanding of consumer needs. The project will be documented as a basis for an open industry-tailored innovation process. => More

 

WhiteFishMaLL (North Atlantic Whitefish Marine Living Lab)

Whitefish products from the North Atlantic come primarily from sustainable stocks, are healthy to eat and have comparatively low environmental impact. This should give a competitive advantage and higher price in the market. But lack of differentiation strategies leads to a fierce competition with products made from species such as pangasius and tilapia. The output of the project will be a whitefish branding platform consisting of a branding strategy, industry guidelines for market communication and demonstration of an innovative whitefish product. => More

 

Aquaponics NOMA (Nordic Marine) – New Innovations for Sustainable Aquaculture in the Nordic countries

This user-driven project will establish a scientific and commercial cluster of aquaponics in the Nordic region including new beneficial stakeholders to the marine & food sector. Innovation focus is on sustainable circulation of raw materials, substituting negative environmental impacts from waste streams into profitable green growth. The research targets are on new commercial choices of cold and warm water fish species, equivalent horticultural plants and improvements of existing technologies, providing the industry with three economical viable production models. => More

 

Pelagic Industry Processing Effluents Innovative and Sustainable Solutions – PIPE

Volumes of effluents from herring processing industries are important and their organic loads are high, which means that the cost imparted for their discharge is substantial. However, the processing effluents contain molecules with good market potential which are discarded. Technological solutions available today do not fit the herring industries due to their poor flux and their poor chemical tolerance and also because they are not well suited for recovery of organic fractions. The vision with the PIPE project is to test cutting edge technologies, and characterize as well as valorize the organic material collected from herring industries effluents and thereby increase sustainability. => More
