In 2011 we have worked proactively to facilitate innovation, cooperation, and initiatives and sharing competence in and between the Nordic countries, as well as interacting on the international arena.

    Innovation policy and the Innovation in rural areas represents a potential that has not been exploited in the Nordic countries. Especially in the areas of tourism and agriculture, the governments need a more proactive attitude towards possibilities in relation to innovation in the periphery.

    Like domestic owned multinational companies, foreign owned multinational companies represent equally positive opportunities for Nordic trade and industry, both in terms of innovative capabilities and value creation. There are no apparent reasons for leading a different policy towards companies with foreign ownership. The governments in the Nordic countries should encourage initiatives that attract this type of companies. Foreign owned multinationals take part in international networks that might benefit other firms in the national innovation system.

    In order to gain a competitive advantage in the world marketplace, Nordic industries need to press forward in several critical research areas. For cast load-carrying and work producing components and structures there is a need to integrate efficient FE based analysis tools, reliable information on defect size, shape and location, and expertise on how complex variable amplitude and multi-axial loading influence fatigue damage in cast materials.

    NordVu - projektet har haft som formål at udarbejde en række ledelsesværktøjer til SMV'er (små- og mellemstore virksomheder) og formidle disse via en hjemmeside (www.nordvu.org). Udarbejdelsen af værktøjerne er sket ud fra succesbeskrivelser og god praksis som blev indsamlet i projektets første fase.

    A summary review of the main findings of the study shows that while the existing and proposed policy reforms have been extensive, there remain a number of important gaps. There are important differences in what kinds of recommendations can work in the respective countries and the country studies provide ample detail on the particular situation in this respect.
