As a result of market needs, the Nordic standardization organizations established in year 2000 a common Nordic standard called INSTA 800 Cleaning quality - System for the establishment and assessment of cleaning quality.

The standard has since the publication been widely used among providers and purchasers of cleaning services, especially in Denmark and Norway. It is used in the private and public sector and by both small and large enterprises. Labour organisations uses the standard as a training tool towards their members and the standard has proved to be a good tool for establishing and measure cleaning quality and communication of cleaning quality between the client and the provider.

The importance of the cleaning quality is increasingly reflected in the specifications and quality requirements for the delivered service. Therefore, there is an increasing market need from providers of the cleaning service to prove their ability to deliver quality cleaning.

Certification could be one tool for making cleaning service providers prove their ability to deliver quality cleaning. It is therefore the aim of this project to make such a tool by making a basis for certification based on the principles defined in the INSTA 800 Cleaning quality - System for the establishment and assessment of cleaning quality. A certification system should take into account that many of the cleaning providers in the Nordic countries are small and medium sized enterprises.

This project aims to develop a Nordic certification system based on the Nordic standard INSTA 800.
